In commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to the mission of the church, and through the enabling of the Holy Spirit, American Baptist Women’s Ministries provide opportunities for each woman and girl to:

 

  • become and develop as God’s person,
  • build God’s faith community, and
  • serve God’s world.

All the women of First Baptist Church are members of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries. Some members also belong to one of the three circles. The ABWM meets twice a year, in May and September, for general meetings at the church under the direction of President Anna Suerken. Circles meet monthly.

Meets the first Thursday at 9:15 a.m., in the First Floor Lounge at the church.

ABWM Projects include:

Missionary Support

  • Love Gift: Love gift offerings—over and above regular giving, are collected throughout the year to support the work of American Baptist missionaries.
  • White Cross: The women participate in this program that provides needed supplies that cannot be purchased with limited mission budgets. Items requested by mission workers are matched with groups that offer to help.
  • Individual Missionaries: Circle members pray for individual missionaries, send them birthday cards, and remember them in other ways throughout the year. 

Ohio ABWM

  • State Project: Help raise $20,000 to renovate the Dayton Christian Center – Proceeds of the annual yard sale go toward this project.
  • Mitten Tree: Collect hats, scarves, mittens and gloves in November and part of December for the Dayton Christian Center, Neighborhood Ministries in Campbell, OH; and EVE, Inc., in Marietta, OH.
  • Campbell’s Soup Labels + Box Tops for Education Program: Collect labels and box tops to benefit the Ohio Christian Centers.
  • Care & Share Recipients: ABWM supports this ministry which offers an opportunity to help eight ministries in Ohio. Each fall the ministries submit requests for their most important needs. The ministries are:

Marietta/Washington County Community

  • EVE, Inc.: Donate a $100 annually to this local shelter, as well as collect toys, children’s and women’s clothes, hygiene and personal care products,  “feel good items”, and gift certificates for residents.
  • Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Club Camp Fund: Donate $100 a year for scholarships.

Congregational Care

Each circle adopts members of the congregation who are shut-ins and remembers them on special occasions and keeps in contact with them throughout the year.
